Organization:
PICO National Network
Award Date:
08/2016
Amount:
$1,394,250
Purpose:
To support the Live Free Campaign.

The Open Philanthropy Project recommended a grant of $1,394,250 to the PICO National Network to support the national Live Free Campaign. The Live Free Campaign is a movement of PICO-affiliated organizations and congregations committed to addressing the causes of violence and mass incarceration in communities across the country. The campaign’s main activities were intended to include community organizing and outreach; advocating for reforms attempting to reduce gun violence and mass incarceration; and civic engagement.

Open Philanthropy's Program Officer for Criminal Justice Reform, Chloe Cockburn, is excited to support the PICO National Network’s work because of their strong organizing infrastructure, detailed strategic planning, and criminal justice experience. Her main reservations include the difficulties of maintaining consistent quality and cohesion among many affiliates.

This grant falls within Open Philanthropy's work on criminal justice reform.
