Open Philanthropy recommended a grant of $60,000 to the Newark Community Street Team to conduct a scan of existing projects deploying community-based public safety strategies. Open Philanthropy’s criminal justice reform team believes that community-based public safety strategies can provide an alternative to incarceration as a way of responding to and preventing violent crimes. The Newark Community Street Team intends to use this funding to conduct interviews with community-based public safety organizations and to identify strategies for building a national coalition of effective community-based public safety organizations.
This falls within Open Philanthropy’s focus area of criminal justice reform.
