The Open Philanthropy Project recommended a grant of $50,000 to Citizens for Juvenile Justice (CfJJ) for general support. The funding was intended to be applied toward efforts to improve the juvenile justice system in Massachusetts, and falls within Open Philanthropy's focus area of criminal justice reform.
CfJJ’s campaign aims to promote healthier outcomes and less recidivism among 18- to 25-year-olds involved in the criminal justice system including: (1) restructuring the juvenile justice system to include 18- to 20-year-olds to prevent them from long-term entanglement in the adult justice system; and (2) improving recidivism outcomes for 21- to 24-year-olds in the adult justice system by creating targeted, developmentally appropriate changes designed to better engage and rehabilitate emerging adults.
