The Open Philanthropy Project recommended a grant of $150,000 to Free Hearts to support criminal justice reform work. Free Hearts is an organizing and advocacy group based in Nashville, which works with formerly incarcerated and currently incarcerated women and girls to reduce female incarceration. Free Hearts plans to use these funds to expand its member base to cover all 31 judicial districts across Tennessee and to work on legislation and campaigns around diversion policy, increased clemency, and more pretrial release.

This falls within Open Philanthropy’s focus area of criminal justice reform.
