Good Ventures recommended a grant of $2,453,548 to GiveWell for general support. The amount was chosen to reflect costs incurred operating the Open Philanthropy Project for the eight months leading up to it becoming an independent organization in June 2017, including staff compensation, contractors, and other costs. At the time these costs were incurred, the Open Philanthropy Project was a collaboration between GiveWell and Good Ventures and was housed within GiveWell.
